In the 2018 outdoor season, Scottish Athletics ran a virtual league using competition results from athletes and Clubs all over Scotland.
Each performance recorded by a Shetland AAC athlete was included in the results determination.
The Club were thrilled to be crowned Overall Club Winner in the Category C (based on competitive membership size) and to be crowned Performance Club Winner in the same category.
Our Under 13s age group won the overall category and our Under 15s won the Jumps, Sprints and Throws competitions, with our Under 17s winning the Sprints competition.
The overall performance success of the Club saw us nominated for Club of the Year in the Scottish Athletics Awards for 2018, along with Edinburgh AC and Aberdeen AAC, two much bigger clubs. What an achievement!
Other achievements by Club members in 2018 included U20 and Celtic Games Scotland vests, Schools International and UK School Games vests, multiple qualifications for the Shetland Island Games Athletics Team for 2019, winning the Ian Williamson Cup for Athletics in the Junior Inter County against Orkney and most importantly a huge number of personal bests across all age groups and in all event groups, providing not only results on paper but shaping the possibilities for all of our athletes.
2019 was the most successful year in the Club’s history and we look forward to seeing how we can continue to develop all our athletes in all age categories to achieve to their potential and progress in future years, together with our coaches and volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible.
