NEW ATHLETE EDUCATION PROGRAMME & SIGN UP FOR FIRST WORKSHOP

The Club is delighted to announce a new Programme to help support all our athletes, their families and coaches not only on the track but also off it.

We have been really fortunate to engage with a range of experienced professionals who are tailoring a series of workshops and resources to suit our unique circumstances in the Isles that will be delivered on an on-going basis throughout the year. The Programme is designed for members to engage with as fully as they wish or just dip in and out as their needs change.

To kick off the Programme, we will be offering a range of workshops, one-to-sessions and weekly resource drops from our Sports Psychologist, Jeffrey Webster. Jeffrey is a young and dynamic full-time practitioner who is working with a range of National Governing Bodies, sports clubs and individuals across a wide spectrum of sports from grassroots to elite Olympic level and his enthusiasm is infective. We have decided to begin with this part of the Programme as we appreciate what a difficult couple of years it has been for many of our members and as things start to return to normal and competitive athletics restarts, we understand there will some hesitance and anxiety about this and there will be many athletes who haven’t competed seriously for over 2 years. We also know that the next few months are a difficult time for those in the upper school range, with the added burden of exams and future careers at the forefront of their minds and we are keen to support people not just through their athletic journeys, but also their life experiences.

To start with, Jeffrey is offering an Introduction to Sport Psychology workshop via Zoom on Thursday 24th March at 7pm. All athletes (aged 13 years and above), their parents and coaches are encouraged to attend. This introductory session will be a basic session covering how the mind works in sport and outline how this part of the programme will work over the coming weeks and months and how you will be able to access the workshops and 1-to-1 sessions.

To sign up, all you need to do is send a message with your contact email address to dwagstaff1970@gmail.com by Monday 21st March. Jeffrey will then be in touch with you all via email with the link to Workshop. Going forward, it will be himself that sends out material and links directly to those signed up, therefore maintaining that confidential professional link.

I hope you think this is something worthwhile engaging with and we urge everyone to at least sign up to the Introductory Session and make your own mind up from there. We are really excited about the whole programme and what benefits we feel all our members can get from it.

If you have any initial questions or queries, then please drop me a message on the email above.
