Shetland AAC athlete Katie Dinwoodie competed in Bedford at the England Athletics U17 Championships this past weekend.

She ran in both the 100m and 200m with the former being on the Saturday and the latter the following day.

The 100m heats started in the morning with Dinwoodie qualifying for the Semi-Finals by finishing 3rd with a time of 12.56s. A couple of hours later, the Bronze medalist from Gibraltar, in this event, was in action in the Semi and ran strongly to qualify for the final. She finished 3rd again, this time with a time of 12.31s.

The final was fiercely contested and Katie ran well to finish a very respectable 6th with a time of 12.2s.

Sunday was the day of the 200m for the sprinters of the competition.

Island Games Champion Dinwoodie was up against competition from across the country in this event. This, however, did not phase her as she qualified straight to the Final by finishing 2nd in a time of 25.12s.

After 3 races the prior day, and the aforementioned heat, the Scottish International athlete challenged from the off in the final and pushed her opponents all the way. She narrowly missed out on Bronze finishing 4th in an excellent time of 25.01s; just 0.07s behind 3rd.

Katie’s coach Louise Jamieson said: “This has been a fantastic way to finish a very successful outdoor season”
