Twenty-six of Shetland’s youngest athletes took part in the Shetland Amateur Athletics Club Under 9 and Under 11 Club Championships on Saturday. The event sponsor was Jamieson’s of Shetland.
Athletes competed across four event rotations in what proved to be challenging weather conditions once again.
The Quadrathlon was split by age group and held across four events; 70m/75m, 400m/600m, long jump and shot put. There was a great level of competition across all age groups with the athletes giving the spectators some wonderful sprint finishes, great jumps and impressive throws, all while having fun and enjoying the finale of the season.
Shetland AAC Chairperson Elaine Park commented, “This was a fantastic event, it is always so encouraging seeing our youngest athletes taking part in competition and being rewarded for all their hard work in training with great performances. Myself and other coaches were impressed by the standard displayed and delighted for each of them. We very much look forward to their bright athletics futures. The Committee would like to thank all of the coaches, officials, parents and athletes, together with our home competition sponsor Jamieson’s of Shetland for making this competition so special.”
The results from the competition are as follows:
Under 9 Boys
Nathan Anderson – 70m 11.99 seconds, 400m 1:36:68, Long Jump 2.59m, Shot 5.77m
